I took this photo in Estes Park, Colorado. There was a about 7 of these male elk in the herd. I was pretty close to them but they did not seem to mind.
First of all, I really like this photo. I like how the title ties in with the photograph - The elk really are roaming free! Now for some constructive criticism: :- )
First of all, I think it is a bit of a shame that the photo is centered around just the elk. I would have liked to have seen the elk slightly off centre, preferably to the bottom left, with more of the stunning landscape visible.
To add to this, it is such a shame that the elk on the left (Stretching its neck) is slightly motion blurred, although, I am not blaming this fault on you, the elk would have probbably moved when you took the photo ;- )
I like the natural marriage of colours, there are no garish yellow plastic bags floating in the distance, only the soft lilacs of the heather and the natural browns and greens of the trees and elk.
I also like the fact that there are no humans in the photo, as this, yet again, ties in with the title: The elk are truly free with not a human in sight.
Overall, a lovely photo (Elks do have really strange moulting patterns, don't they?) With a nice little vision behind it. Well done!
